Outdoor Education

High School Outdoor Education

High School Outdoor Education is a chance for high school students to serve and learn about the culture in which they live. Several small groups rotate between projects, led by both an adult leader and 12th grade students. The student leaders learn leadership skills, coordinate with and work alongside local citizens, and help plan ministry events.

As a group, students learn to work together, learn the joys of service, and build relationships with other high school students. Evenings are spent in a chapel-like setting with guest speakers and time for reflection.

Some of the past projects have included the following: spending the week with local tribes to learn skills such as cooking and fishing using native techniques; helping at an orphanage; helping with post-natural disaster relief and light construction; and ministering at local schools and hospitals. We have also partnered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity to assist in different forms of community development.

Middle School Outdoor Education

All middle school students participate in Outdoor Education, an annual, week-long trip to Luzon organized by Faith Academy that allows students to experience the great outdoors, build relationships, and grow their teamwork skills. A three year rotation allows students to visit three different sites during their middle school years. Students fly to Luzon with their squad leaders and join the Faith Academy students. The groups spend a week experiencing different outdoor environments and leading ministry activities.

The three locations include Mt. Taal for a close look at the world of volcanology, Corregidor for a firsthand look at the history of World War II, and Subic for a fun adventure in the jungle while learning basic survival skills. All three locations include ministry opportunities with kids at local elementary schools, such as singing songs, playing games, and doing crafts that have a biblical message. Every location also includes a marine experience, such as releasing sea turtles to the ocean or SCUBA diving. Our middle school students will tell you that Outdoor Education is one of the most memorable experiences they have during their time at Faith!
